I like to ask behavioral questions like:
What do you say/do when you hear, I like you and your product but your
      price is too high.
Do you have a repeatable sales process? If so take me through it.
What do you think is the most important step in your sales process?
Tell me how you prospect for business.
What do you do when you discover upon closing that the person you’ve
been meeting with for the last two months is not the decision maker?

Most sales people are adept at interviewing and have figured out what a sales manager wants to hear. This minimizes the memorized answers and makes them share how they would do it.

The one question I always ask is: “What are the measurements of successful performance in your current position? How well did you meet them?” Ask this same question for all previous sales positions listed on the resume. Any potential sales representative can say they are a “quota buster” or a “top performer” in an interview. In reality however, descriptive phrases such as these don’t mean much to you as a sales recruiter unless there is some quantitative proof behind it.
