Davina was an HR manager in her last role.
She was working in San Francisco with a 2 hours commute each way.
She had two phones, two laptops.
Davina thought there was only one way to get to where you want to go. But somewhere along the way, she realized that there are many ways to get there.
You do not have to follow whatever you think is the prescribed path for you just because people have told you that’s where you’ll do best.
Often people kill themselves to get there, and then are afraid to be anything else.
For Davina, it took her many years to figure out “I don’t have to stay with this company, stay with this brand, stay in this role to become whoever it is that Davina is going to be.”
At almost 40, she’s not afraid to say she’s not even where she’s going to finish. She’s still getting there. And that’s ok.
In the executive world, there was a pronounced fear of not doing things exactly on time.
But don’t forget that there are many paths to take that can still get you to where you want to be and who you want to be. Don’t be afraid to take a different path.
